Projects

One Profession

One Profession is (will be) a community-driven website for engineers, scientists and technologists from the aspiring to the leaders. It has been designed to facilitate discussion and knowledge sharing to promote best practice. The ultimate idea is that it will mean more relevant, safe and reliable products and services for users achieved through higher efficiencies and lower environmental impacts. It’s  big goal, but any contribution is a good one.

Genesis

The Genesis Application has been designed from the ground-up to be a powerful but simple-to-use tool to facilitate professional and personal development. It is compatible with any number of development frameworks and brings in a scheduler, competence mapping, a personal objective framework, profile baselining, and a data import/export system. What’s more, it enables the user to connect with their mentors and mentees to review competence profiles or submit reports. And all of this it will provide for free.

Businesses can also get involved, through a modest paid subscription they can manage any number of members globally publishing bulletins, adding activities, events and defining a corporate competence framework. With the member’s permission, they may also partake in reviews and make suggestions on progress. It’s the ideal aid for professional development programmes.

n-bridge

The n-bridge project is an open-source library, written in PHP, and hosted on Google Apps. It was written  for tying together the various web applications used before ExpressionEngine was taken up at One Profession. Development activity is currently low, but it will be my biggest project after Genesis is released this year.

Storyboard

Storyboard is an Apple OS X application to help individuals use less sticky paper notes when constructing agile storyboards. Project stories can be recorded in formatted text, assigned a phase and workers, a priority and due date. Each project is stored as a separate file. I welcome any third party developers to continue it, but now use AgileZen myself, so will not be taking it any further.

PeoplePoint

Again addressing the problem of a lack of user-coherent web applications, PeoplePoint was developed as an all-in-one extensible CMS, Wiki and Forum solution for website owners. The system was designed as an open-source replacement for the likes of vBulletin 4.0 Publishing Suite, or ExpressionEngine. It allows blogging, discussion, multiple templates and is lightweight and flexible. It also manages user registrations and session management across the whole application. It is written in PHP and depends on MySQL and still under development.
